Indication

Mode of Action

The medication functions by targeting the arachidonic acid cascade. When membrane phospholipids are broken down into arachidonic acid, they are metabolized by two primary enzymes: Cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1) and Cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2). The COX-1 pathway produces prostaglandins and thromboxanes that are essential for normal physiologic homeostasis, including gastrointestinal mucosal protection, healthy platelet aggregation, and baseline renal function. The COX-2 pathway, conversely, produces prostaglandins that primarily mediate pathological pain, inflammation, and fever (though they also play secondary roles in tissue repair and renal function). Carbol Vet acts as a selective NSAID by specifically inhibiting the COX-2 enzyme pathway. This blocks the inflammatory and pain-inducing prostaglandins while sparing the homeostatic, protective functions of the COX-1 pathway.
