Iron deficiency anaemia, especially in piglets. Given by injection where oral iron is impractical.
Vitamin E or selenium deficiency — injectable iron can precipitate fatal reactions in deficient animals.
Injection-site staining and swelling; anaphylactoid reactions occur occasionally.
