Acyclovir

Herpesvirus infection. Veterinary evidence is limited and it is used off-label; benefit is uncertain.

Renal impairment. Cats are sensitive to systemic antivirals — bone marrow suppression has been reported.

Bone marrow suppression, particularly in cats; gastrointestinal upset; nephrotoxicity at high doses.

Avoid unless clearly justified.
