Indication

Enteric bacterial infection and colibacillosis. Poorly absorbed orally, so it acts within the gut.

Contraindications

Intestinal obstruction; renal impairment if systemic absorption is possible.

Side Effects

Gut flora disturbance. Absorbed drug is nephrotoxic and ototoxic, which matters where the gut wall is damaged.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Oral use is considered low risk; avoid parenteral use in pregnancy.
