Mainly indicated to kittens as milk replacer, This combination is found in premium milk replacer like Royal Canin. This product is intended for the nutritional management of kittens in the following scenarios: Orphaned Kittens: When the mother is absent and a complete milk replacement is required from birth to weaning. Insufficient Maternal Milk: When the mother cat (queen) is not producing enough milk to sustain the litter (agalactia). Poor Milk Quality: In cases where the mother has a mammary infection, such as mastitis, which can make her milk unsafe for kittens. Large Litters: To supplement nursing kittens when the mother cannot physically feed all of them adequately.
Hypothermic Kittens: Kittens that are dangerously cold (hypothermic) cannot digest milk properly. They must be warmed to a normal body temperature before being fed to avoid "toxic milk syndrome". Starch-Intolerant Stages: While this specific formula is starch-free, adding other foods containing starch to it is contra-indicated for neonates who lack amylase for digestion.
While generally safe, improper use or individual sensitivity may cause: Digestive Upset: The most common side-effects are diarrhea, constipation, or gas. Vomiting: This can occur if the milk is fed too quickly, at the wrong temperature, or if the concentration is too high. Aspiration Pneumonia: A critical risk if the kitten is fed while on its back or if the milk flow is too fast, causing them to inhale the fluid into their lungs. Dehydration: Rapidly follows diarrhea in neonates and can be life-threatening if not addressed by a veterinarian immediately.
