Penicillins bind with bacterial cell receptors (penicillin binding protein). Peptidoglycan synthesis is inhibited because transpeptidase is blocked. Inactivate the inhibitor of autolytic enzymes in the bacterial cell wall which cause lysis of the bacterium. Defective cell wall form that is osmotically unstable. Cell death usually results from lysis.
