Neomycin Sulfate is a broad-spectrum antibiotic belonging to the aminoglycoside class . It is active against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, including Escherichia coli, Salmonella, Campylobacter, Pasteurella, Staphylococci, and Listeria spp. . Specific indications vary by species: Calves: Used to treat calf diarrhea and calf scour . Poultry & Pets: Effective against bacterial enteritis, salmonellosis, colibacillosis, fowl cholera, and infectious coryza . Fish & Shrimp: Used to treat open sores, internal swelling, loss of color, body distortion, body and fin rot, general bacterial infections, guppy disease, and furunculosis
Neomycin is classified as a potentially nephrotoxic (kidney-damaging) drug . Because of this, it must be used with extreme caution if administered concurrently with other potentially nephrotoxic medications, such as cephalosporin antibiotics, Amphotericin B, Vancomycin, Polymyxin B, or diuretics like Frusemide
Neomycin should not be used during pregnancy or lactation
