Vitamin D3

Indication

Rickets and osteomalacia. Supports calcium and phosphorus absorption and normal bone mineralisation.

Contraindications

Hypercalcaemia and hypervitaminosis D. Do not give alongside other vitamin D sources without recalculating the total dose.

Side Effects

Overdose causes hypercalcaemia, soft-tissue calcification, anorexia and renal damage. The margin between a therapeutic and a toxic dose is narrower than for water-soluble vitamins.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Safe at recommended doses; avoid excessive supplementation.
